I chose my career mainly because it has a wide field of work (education, health, work, children, etc.), and I like the idea of working directly with people and trying to solve their problems. Now that I am finishing my first year in social work, I have realised how important it is in society. As we have seen in the different classes throughout the year, our career promotes social change and development, where the concepts of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversity are fundamental to social work.
Social workers have a positive impact on the world, as they can work in many different fields. They are recognised especially by those who give benefits or belong to trade unions, but there is also critical social work that is not only a clerk, but there is also critical social work, which creates new policies with a welfare approach.
Social intervention is one of the things that motivates me most in my career and I see myself in the future doing several intervention internships. I remember that when I chose this career I wanted to focus on working with women who suffer patriarchal violence, providing shelter services or accompaniment in the process, and to be able to change the policies on violence against women, which have an approach where social workers have fewer limits in order to be able to give more support in their work. Moreover, the intervention contributes beneficially to the world, as the intervention starts from the need to question and change the structural conditions that contribute to marginalisation, social exclusion and oppression.
