Blog post 5: Changes to my study programme

Hello everyone, well, today I'm going to tallk about if I would chnage something in my study programme.

I study Social Work at the University of Chile. The programme of this university, aims that students can understan and apply fundamentals of social sciences, as basis skills for research and social intervention. These tools allow them to perform critial and complex analysis of social, relity, implement effective and innovativ social interventios that address the most important social challenges of the country.

With the above, i want to say that I feel that the stidy programme does provide all these qualities, since I have theoriticas subjects on research and social intervention, as well as basis subjects to understand teh social reality. However, I think it is necessary to implemennt more practical subjects, although theory is important, practie is also important.

This is my curricular mesh

About the facilities of the faculty, the Social Work department is smaller thant the other majors on the faculty. Also, for a class in wich we have to use a computer program, the rooms are not big enough to fit the whole class, but I think its more a problem of space redistribution.

Finally, about the workload and the duration of the studies, I think tahat sometimes there is of academis load depending of the teachers, as there are many texts and pages to read in a single course. However, I think that five years of stufyy are good to have more knowledge and experience.

Blog post 4: Time travel to the past or future

Time travel to the future must be fascinating, imagine being able to cross the boundaries of our current realities and witness the advances and discoveries of the future. If I had the opportunity to time travel to the future, I would definitely want to explore a futuristic city like Tokyo.

Tokyo has always been a center of innovation and technological progress, and I am intrigued to know what it will be like in the future. The city is already famous for its futuristic architecture and technological advances, but I imagine it will be even more amazing in the future.

If I could choose a time in the future to travel to, it would be some time when humanity has achieved a balance between technological progress and sustainability. It would be exciting to see how climate change has been addressed.

However, I don't think I would want to stay in the future. While the idea of experiencing a futuristic world is intriguing, I also appreciate the things that are important to me today, such as my family, my friends, and my current experiences. Therefore, I believe my trip to the future would be a temporary experience, an opportunity to explore and learn, but return to my present time to appreciate what I have and build a better future here.

POST3: MY DREAM JOB

My dream job would be to be a social worker, in a social organization that focuses on helping vulnerable people and communities. Specifically, I would like to work in the field of children or gender.

In the area of children, I would like to work to protect children and young people from abuse and neglect. On the other hand, in the area of gender, I would like to work on support services for victims of domestic violence, including emotional support, counselling and help in obtaining resources and safety services.

To carry out this work requires the ability to apply the theories and methodologies taught depending on the social context in which one wants to intervene, communicating effectively with localities, advocating for rights and promoting social change.

The salary of a social worker may vary according to the type of employer, whether it is a private, public or non-profit organization. The average salary of a social worker in Chile is $900,000.

I am currently studying social work. I chose my career mainly because I like the idea of working directly with people and trying to solve their problems. Now that I am in my second year, I have realized how important it is in society, promoting social change and development.

BLOG POST 2: THE BEST CONCERT EVER

The best concert I have ever attended was that of "Los Bunkers" on 12 March 2023 at the Santa Laura stadium, for their return to the stage on their Ven Aquí tour.

Los Bunkers is a Chilean alternative rock band, specifically from Concepción, which emerged in 1999 and in 2014, announced an indefinite break. During the social outburst of 2019, they had a small reunion to participate in the mobilisations with their protest songs. Finally, in 2022 they announced their return with two concerts in Santiago in 2023.

The atmosphere at this concert was wonderful, as everyone was happy about their return and there were people of all ages. I had a great time at this concert, as I was in the arena section and close to the stage. I was jumping a lot with the audience and singing at the top of my lungs. It was a unique experience and I would repeat it a thousand times.

I remember that the times when my excitement was at its peak, was when they approached the audencie and Alvaro Lopéz starded dancing.

BLOG POST 1: A COUNTRY YOU WOULD LIKE TO VISIT

Blog post: A country you would like to visit

Hello, it is really difficult for me to choose just one country out of all the ones I want to visit, as I consider myself a person who always likes to visit new places. But if I have to choose one, it would be Greece, specifically Skópelos and  the other Greek islands.

To be honest, this last time I have been a bit obsessed with the movie "Mamma mia", which is one of my favorite movies. This movie was filmed mainly in Skopelos and other islands. I found this island so beautiful that i starded to do some research on it.

The paradise island of Skopelos is located in the Aegean Sea in the Sporades archipelago. It is characterised by its many green areas, emerald green waters and white sandy beaches. Obviously what I would like to do in this place would be to swim in those crystal clear waters, visit the villages and their architecture, get to know some of the myths and legends of the area.  All this in the company of Abba's songs.

I don't think I would like to live or study there. First of all I don't know Greek, and lastly, I like Chile as a place to pursue my career.

POST 5: HOW CAN YOUR MAJOR MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE

I chose my career mainly because it has a wide field of work (education, health, work, children, etc.), and I like the idea of working directly with people and trying to solve their problems. Now that I am finishing my first year in social work, I have realised how important it is in society. As we have seen in the different classes throughout the year, our career promotes social change and development, where the concepts of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversity are fundamental to social work.

Social workers have a positive impact on the world, as they can work in many different fields. They are recognised especially by those who give benefits or belong to trade unions, but there is also critical social work that is not only a clerk, but there is also critical social work, which creates new policies with a welfare approach.

Social intervention is one of the things that motivates me most in my career and I see myself in the future doing several intervention internships. I remember that when I chose this career I wanted to focus on working with women who suffer patriarchal violence, providing shelter services or accompaniment in the process, and to be able to change the policies on violence against women, which have an approach where social workers have fewer limits in order to be able to give more support in their work. Moreover, the intervention contributes beneficially to the world, as the intervention starts from the need to question and change the structural conditions that contribute to marginalisation, social exclusion and oppression.

POST 4: MY FAVOURITE FOOD

Well, if I have to be honest, if I have to decide on my favourite food I would choose  potatoes.

I really consider myself a big fan of potatoes. Also, they can be prepared in many different ways, for example, baked, fried, mashed, in salads, etc. Well, despite this, I have my favourite way of cooking potatoes: Baked potatoes.

To be more specific, I like "roasted potatoes white fine herbs", mainly because they are a delicious mix of flavours . They are prepared in the oven with different spices and they can be accompanied by vegetables, rice, meat and salads, but as I have been vegetarian for more than four year, I prefer to cook them with vegetables or legume burgers.

The preparation of these potatoes is simple, you need oregano, rosemary, garlic, a little chilli colour, salt and pepper to taste. I put all these ingredients in a bag with the potatoes already cut and with oil, mix them well and let them rest for a few minutes, and then put them in the oven.

I really don't know how this food affects my health, I hope it is not such a negative thing for my health. I also try not to eat "roasted potatoes white fine herbs" so often and if I do, I try not to eat them with other carbohydrates.
